Shared accounts copy photos, messages, and locations between devices by themselves. Turning this off can be noticed by the other person.
What syncs
A shared Apple ID, Google account, or family plan can copy photos, browser history, notes, calendars, contacts, message backups, and location between devices continuously. A photo taken on your phone can appear on a tablet at home seconds later. Deleting something locally often deletes it everywhere — but not from backups already made.

Why 'just turn it off' is not simple
Disabling sync or leaving a family group is usually visible to the other people in it, sometimes with an automatic notification. Knowing what is shared is safe; changing it is a decision about timing that only you can make.
What this does NOT protect against
- Copies that already synced to other devices or backups
- The visibility of turning sync off — it can be noticed or notified
- Purchases and subscriptions visible on shared billing
- New devices silently added to the account by someone with the password
